Unless we buy different Vox combo amps that can fit or already come with Celestion Alnico speakers, we will just have to settle for owning the Vox top boost printed circuitboard entry level amp and call it good enough. Using this amp as a head would render its internal speaker useless. We would need to add an extension cab to use those specific speakers with an AC10c1. From what I've read online, Celestion Alnico Ruby, Blue or Gold speakers are what really bring the voice of these amps into the sonic Top Boost Vox realm. I actually did notice a considerable increase in bass and volume output. I did however switch out the four cheesy/thin glass stock Chinese made tubes for JJs. The tube placement inside of this amplifiers cabinet won't allow the depth of an Alnico speaker to fit inside. Not sure exactly what it is that an Alnico speakers tone has to offer. I ended up putting my factory VX 10 speaker back inside the amp. The 16 ohm ten inch Celestion Greenback speaker killed the highs. I tried it for a while but the tone sounded muted as if I switched to a hemp cone speaker. Youtube videos reccomended I switch out the stock VX 10 speaker for a Celestion Greenback speaker. Post away and let's see what we can find. I have not seen any reports for either of the WGS options, but the Retro 10 looks tempting. The Weber seems to be good option, and they are very engaged with this amp and its chassis limitations. So, please post your impressions, thoughts, and experiences here.
